(The Unchangeable)

Today’s song is by Kwon Soon Kwan, the vocal for the group No Reply. As much as I’d like to talk about song itself, I think I’m going to talk about why I chose to share this song today.
Play the song and just read on if you will.
Kwon Soon KwanThe phrase “don’t take things for granted” sounds so cliché, but clichés are clichés for a reason. I certainly take a lot of things for granted, but I don’t think I’ll be able to change that until I lose something or someone important, after it’s too late. Couple of days ago, a good friend of mine lost someone who is very, if not the most, important to him. Even when his whole family knew of the inevitable for years, no amount of time could have prepared for the emptiness he must’ve felt once she was gone. Talking with him afterwards, I found myself left at a loss for words. And while he might’ve just wanted someone who would listen, I felt the need to tell him… just tell him something.
Hey, I couldn’t say much at the time, but I hope this song can tell you what I really wanted to say.

Kwon Soon Kwan – The Unchangeable

After the darkness fades and the sun rises,
I wake up to the sound of busy lives filling up the streets.

As bright as the sunshine on a sunny day in May,
Comes the melody that makes my frail heart flutter.

The unchangeable in the midst of all that changes,
Things I’ve grown accustomed to that I now take for granted.

Tall trees and the wind that makes them dance,
The soft voice of my mom telling me to keep my head up.

The unchangeable in the midst of all that changes,
People I’ve grown accustomed to who I now take for granted.

Streets I couldn’t forget, and the love I couldn’t show yet,
Are all slowly changing.

The beautiful things I believed would last forever,
I can just hope they don’t fade like the ripples in the water.

The unchangeable in the midst of all that changes,
Everything I almost forgot the importance of.

Rainy days, the lonesome sea,
And your smile, please stay another day.
Please don’t disappear.
